24 Hopeful Bible Verses for New Beginnings in Your Life

Above my desk, scratched into a neon green Post-It is the phrase, “Always, we begin again,” by St. Augustine. It’s a reminder as I come into my office every day to work, that beginning again is a part of life. But God is with me every step of the way. New beginnings can be anything from entering into the New Year, moving to a new city, saying goodbye to your old job in order to start a business from home, to beginning a new relationship. New beginnings are happening all around us—in fact, God gives us a new beginning every time He wakes us in the early dawn hours. In fact, the Bible has a lot to say about new beginnings.
Should Christians Be Anxious about New Beginnings?
But sometimes stepping out in faith, going against the grain, or swimming against the tide of the culture can be downright scary, murky, and we feel like we’re buried beneath the darkness of, “What ifs.” God knows a thing or two about starting over. He also knows a thing or two about new beginnings. Look at the Old Testament and compare it to the stories of the New Testament. He created a perfect world and then, we humans made a few mistakes. But God wasn’t afraid to start over and begin again. Instead, He sent us a Savior in form of His Son. Jesus came so that we can have life and live it abundantly. And that is the beautiful thing about new beginnings with God. He reminds us in Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
He said this to the Israelites who had wearied Him with their fear, sin, and disobedience. Part of it is what He tells them in this passage, that He will provide water in desolate places to turn a wasteland into a fruitful land. He is doing the same for us, no matter what new beginning we are facing. God always does new things, or “He makes all things new” (Rev 21:5). He never changes, but as He reveals deeper and deeper layers of the truth, His people experience aspects of God and His salvation in brand new ways and depths.
Because of this, He firmly and lovingly reminds us we do not need to be anxious. He wants us to turn to Him and keep our eyes firmly planted on Him as He walks and leads us into these new days. He offers us hope when we are afraid. He offers truth when we’re second-guessing ourselves. He offers wisdom when we need it.
God also gave us the Holy Spirit is the difference-maker who enables us to walk by faith in obedience to Christ. The Holy Spirit allows us to abide in Him. In Isaiah 41:10 God tells us to not to fear. He says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When we are tempted to fear, we need to remember that God is with us. God promises us that he will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). His Word also says that He will go with us (Deuteronomy 31:6). We do not have to face tomorrow or our fears alone.
God created us and He knows each specific fear we have. He created our inmost being and knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13), which includes authoring every day of our lives, God says to his prophet in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”
Because God created us, He not only knows our fears, but also the situations or new beginnings that may cause us to fear. And yet, we know He never leaves us to face those fears alone if we have put our faith in Jesus Christ. We can take comfort in the fact that God is with us always. And “if God is for us, who can be against us” (Romans 8:31)? If you’re feeling pangs of anxiety or are worried about the unknown, the Bible is filled with encouragement and is a great source of wisdom, foundational truths, and strength. Embrace a fresh start in Jesus Christ with the words of 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
