Does God Care about Me?

A common question that invades many of our minds is, “does God care about me?” I know I have personally struggled with this question throughout my life, not only before becoming a Christian but also after I became a Christian. If you have struggled or are struggling with these feelings, know that you are not alone.
God Does Care
Even if you feel like God doesn’t care about you, He does. He loves you unconditionally and eternally.
The Bible tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17).
Not only in this passage of Scripture but in numerous passages are we told of God’s love for us (Jeremiah 31:3; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:16). Our minds have a way of deceiving us into believing lies, including believing the lie that God doesn’t care about us or that He doesn’t love us.
God does care about you because He created you, died for you, and wants to spend eternity with you. If God didn’t care, He could have left us to die in our sins, but He didn’t. He chose to die for our sins in order for us to be forgiven of our sins, have a relationship with Him, and spend eternity with Him.
Battling All of the Lies
Whenever the lie “God doesn’t care about me” drifts into our minds, we need to automatically talk back to it. If we don’t talk back to the lie and correct it, it will become more and more saturated in our minds.
At these times, we need to put on the full armor of God as Paul tells us,
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people (Ephesians 6:13-18).
Following Paul’s instructions to put on the full armor of God is crucial to remove these lies from our minds.
Satan is the deceiver, and he wants us to believe lies about God and ourselves. We don’t need to give him the satisfaction of believing his lies.
No matter what our heads or our feelings try to tell us, God cares about each and every single one of us. He created us, loves us, and He calls us His children (John 1:12).
Past Experiences
Often our past experiences can affect how we view God and how we view His love. If we grow up in situations where we are not loved by our parents or our family members, it can cause us to have hesitancy over believing that God actually cares for us because we have never known what it feels like to be truly loved and cared about in our own lives.
In these types of experiences, it is understandable why one would hesitate in believing that God cares. It is important at these times that we remind ourselves of the truth of the Bible. The Bible is the infallible Word of God, which means it can be fully trusted (2 Timothy 3:16).
When God says He loves us, it truly means He loves us. God doesn’t lie, nor is He capable of lying (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). Since God cannot lie, we can know that He is telling the truth when the Bible tells us God cares for us and loves us.
In fact, 1 Peter 5:7 tells us directly, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” In this passage of the New Testament, we are told directly that God cares for us. Every single person in the world is unconditionally loved by God.
He cares about every part of your day, and He wants to hear from you. Whenever you are scared, lonely, happy, excited, or crestfallen, God wants to hear from you because He cares about you. You are His beloved child, and no one can ever take you from His hand (John 10:28-30).
If you have had a past filled with hatred, pain, and a lack of love from your family, don’t associate God with them. God is your good, good Father who loves you the way you were meant to be loved and cared for.
Even if our blood family has never extended love, thought, or concern to us, God is always extending His love and care to us. We are always on His mind, and He loves us dearly.
Application for Daily Life
If you’re like me, sometimes it’s hard to apply the Bible’s teachings to your life. It is easier to read something and move on than to actually apply it to our daily lives. It is vitally important that we do apply the truth of God caring for us in our lives.
When things go all wrong around us, it can cause us to question if God really cares at all. Questions such as “Why did God allow such-in-such to happen because if He cared, it would not have happened” or “If God cared about me, such-in-such would not have happened.”
The truth is that we can’t always know for sure why something happens, but we can trust God, and we can know that He cares about us.
Every breath we take, every step we take, and every day we live happens because God cares about us. God cared about us so much that He sent His Son to die the death we deserved.
Therefore, don’t let the lies of the enemy float around your head because Satan only wants you to become unproductive for the Lord. If we believe that God doesn’t care about us, we will begin to live in a way that doesn’t bring glory to God.
Know the truth that God does love you, and He does care about you. There is not a second that you are not on His mind. You are His dearly loved child, and He cares about you so much that He willingly died for you in order to have a relationship with Him.
Reminding ourselves that God loves us and cares about us may have to become a daily thing we tell ourselves until we fully believe it, but the important thing to remember is that God does care about you.
Even if we feel that nobody cares about us, God does. We don't have to “feel” God’s love in order to know it’s there because God is greater than our feelings. Even if we don’t “feel” the love and care God has for us, it is still there.
If you are in doubt about whether or not God cares about you, rest in the peace of knowing that God does care about you, and He cares about every single second of your life. He cares because He loves you.
