Recent Political Party Events Reshaping the 2024 Election Landscape

President Biden's announcement on Sunday to step aside as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee was a relief to some Democrats and a call to action for others. The big question that now looms for the party is who to nominate.

Democrats Divided on Harris as Biden’s Successor

After stepping aside, Biden didn't waste any time endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrat front-runner. And Harris didn't waste any time responding to that. She confirmed on Sunday that she intends to run, according to Fox News, and most Democrats believe she is the most logical and obvious choice, according to The Hill.

As Biden's Vice President and running mate, the Democrat Party already knows she embraces the views and beliefs of the party and its agenda. So they can be confident that Harris wouldn't be likely to change any of the policies they want to keep in place in connection to Biden's presidency, nor will she be likely to veto any new ones that the party wants to try to put in place over the next four years. That being said, voters who are Democrat-leaning are likely to see policies and leadership similar to those of the Biden administration if Harris becomes the next president.

Assassination Attempt on Trump Rallies Republican Support

On the other side of the political spectrum, following the recent rally assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Crosswalk had an opportunity to attend the J.D. Vance rally in Middletown, Ohio. The rally took place on Monday, July 22nd.

It was a beautiful sunny morning in Middletown as people lined up for about one mile, waiting to enter the building. A Middletown police officer directing traffic at the Middletown High School parking lot entrance said the lot was closed because there weren't any spaces left. Parking would have to be found elsewhere.

Upon approaching the main entrance, a speaker was outside the doors, which allowed people to hear what was happening inside. A local police officer stated, "The auditorium holds 900 people. There are way more than 900 people here already."

The rally hadn't started at that point. It had been advertised starting at 12:30 p.m., with Vance taking the stage at 1:30 p.m., so music played through the speaker as people waited in line.

Christians Rally for Religious Influence

Many rally attendees were dressed in patriotic apparel. Some wore tee shirts with Christian sayings; others were wearing tee shirts that painted Trump as a hero for surviving the attempted assassination of his life.

Due to extra security caution, the rally started ~30 minutes late. Efforts were made to let as many people into the building as possible without violating the building code.

After people were told that the building was filled to capacity, some gravitated to the front entrance near the speaker to hear the rally. Others decided to leave peacefully.

J.D. Vance Promises Bold Agenda for Trump’s Second Term

The crowd roared with delight when J.D. Vance took the stage of his hometown.

He thanked the crowd and said, "This town has been so good to me! I will never forget where I came from!"

He spoke about the importance of fighting for the next generation to have opportunities for a "good education, and not indoctrination" into a liberal agenda while attending school.

He also spoke of fighting for the American people. He said that the Trump administration would work to pass policies that would lower energy costs, help businesses grow, keep jobs in America, and reward businesses that create products in America.

Vance also spoke of the importance of fighting for the next generation to have the opportunity to live out the American dream. As a parent, he said he understands that all parents want their children to have a better life than when they were children.

"When I think of the American dream," he said, "I think of becoming a husband and a father."

He added that he's grateful for the opportunities he's had as an American and that "with gratitude should come a sense of responsibility."

Vance didn't bring up the topics of how the administration would deal with the pro-life issue, the Ukraine-Russia war, or Israel during the rally.
