The Impact on America if Biden Exits the 2024 Presidential Race

The Impact on America if Biden Exits the 2024 Presidential Race

After the debate between President Biden and former President Trump on Thursday night, Biden has been pressured to quit his campaign and let the Democrats choose a different candidate. The way this particular challenge ends still seems difficult to predict, but the possibility of Biden quitting isn’t out of the question.

Biden’s Own Admissions

Presently, Biden has been willing to admit that he is indeed aging and his debate skills are declining, but he also says this isn’t something that will prevent him from knowing “how to tell the truth,” according to Business Standard.

Biden’s family has encouraged him to continue the race for the 2024 presidency. According to CNN, First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, and their grandchildren met at Camp David on Sunday, even though the family had plans to meet there prior to Thursday’s debate debacle.

According to WND, Bill O’Reilly posted on his X feed Sunday afternoon that “the decision has been made” regarding Biden’s quitting his campaign.

O’Reilly listed two reasons: “Democrat internal polling says he cannot recover from the debate, and fundraising is drying up.”

O’Reilly stated, “The White House doesn’t yet know how or when to make the announcement.”

Options for Biden Regarding His Campaign

If Biden does drop out, it’s speculated that he would only do so if there were a “dignified way out,” according to The New York Times.

Biden does have the option to drop out on his own. In fact, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has rules that indicate that any delegates already won by Biden must continue to support him unless he chooses to drop out. According to The Hill, those delegates could then back another candidate.

If Biden were to step aside, Vice President Harris would likely be the candidate who would take his place. Harris quickly took to the airwaves and expressed her confidence in Biden’s ability to handle a second term in office.

“To be quite honest, she sounded coherent and made her points succinctly and sharply,” one Democratic donor said. “The next 30 days, it may be up to her to make the case. People will be looking to her and testing her to see if she’s ready.”

One Democrat who served when Obama was in office told The Hill that Harris “clearly has a purpose now to make the case for what they have accomplished.”

Another Way to Remove Biden

If the 25th Amendment was enforced, Biden could be removed from the race against his will. This was suggested by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA.) on Friday because of Biden’s poor performance in Thursday’s debate.

“There’s a lot of people asking about the 25th Amendment, invoking the 25th Amendment right now because this is an alarming situation,” Johnson told The Hill. “Our adversaries see the weakness in this White House as we all do. I take no pleasure in saying that. I think this is a very dangerous situation.”

Section four of the 25th Amendment allows lawmakers to remove the president from office if it can be proven that he is unfit and unable to function as the country’s president.

Johnson is challenging Cabinet members to, “search their hearts,” because of reports that Democrats are “panicking” over the way Biden performed in the debate.

“I would be panicking too if I were a Democrat today, and that was my nominee. I think they know they have a serious problem.”

Not only is Biden’s electability in question, but the question of who is presently running the country is also looming.

John Daniel Davidson of The Federalist suggested on Friday that the most frightening fact the debate has highlighted is, “Our current president, as the entire world now knows, cannot follow the train of his own thoughts. He seems to have only a tenuous grasp on reality. He can barely walk down a few steps. Clearly, he’s not the one in charge of the White House, which means the presidency itself is remarkably weak right now. That, in turn, means the world is a much more dangerous place after last night because America’s adversaries know they have a narrow window to exploit the obvious weakness of our Executive Branch while Biden is still in office.”
