'Case for Christ' Star Mike Vogel on His Role in the Film and How the Book Influenced Him

Actor Mike Vogel, who is starring as atheist-turned-Christian-apologist Lee Strobel in the upcoming film The Case for Christ, said he wishes faith-based films didn’t have such a stigma.

Vogel is known for his role as Deputy Zack Shelby in the television series Bates Motel and Dale “Barbie” Barbara in Under the Dome. His most current role has him playing Lee Strobel whose life was turned upside down by his conversion to Christ and who went on to write the bestseller The Case for Christ.

Vogel told Charisma News that he himself was influenced by Strobel's book, and when the opportunity presented itself for him to play Strobel in a film, he says he asked God if he should take it.

Vogel also commented on the bias that is often attached to faith-based films:

"Being in the industry for as long as I've been, there is a stigma about faith-based film[s]. And I don't think it should exist. I don't think it has any right to exist. We serve the ultimate artist, the ultimate Creator. I think if people don't want to go see a film because of a message, I totally get that. That's one thing. But what they should never be able to do is say it's sub-par quality."

The Case for Christ is set to release on April 7. It also stars Erika Christensen as Lee Strobel’s wife, Leslie, as well as Faye Dunaway and Robert Forster.
