Rebecca St. James and Husband Cubbie Fink Share Marriage and Ministry Journey in New Book 'Lasting Ever'

As Rebecca St. James and her husband, Cubbie Fink, settle into the view of the Zoom link for their interview, one can tell that these two not only love each other but also share ministry space together. On this day, the two of them are on tour, getting ready to lead thousands to the throne of God, and have stepped away for a few minutes to sit down for an interview with Crosswalk Headlines.
The Finks have released a new book titled Lasting Ever, where they break down their Faith, Music and Family, and what has formed and shaped them as a couple.
Crosswalk Headlines: Where were the two of you when you knew that God was calling you to write the book?
Rebecca St. James and Cubbie Fink: I think we were probably early on in marriage when we dreamed about ministering together and maybe writing a book, maybe doing speaking engagements together in the future. It was a film producer, a friend of ours, who came to us and said, you guys really need to write a book.
CWH: What are your hopes for those who will be reading the book?
R&C: I think some, quite often in marriage or in family life, just need hope and encouragement. The film producer friend of ours believed that we have an encouraging story, and it could breathe life into a generation of people who just need encouragement regarding family and faith life, so that was really where it began.
CWH: How do the two of you work together so well in ministry?
R&C: It was actually a lot easier than you might anticipate. We've been able to collaborate on a couple of things now. I was able to work on some music with Rebecca on her last album, and that was kind of our first creative venture partnering and working together, and that seemed to work very well. Coming together to write the book just felt very natural. I think both of us have sensed that there's a greater calling in our marriage for us to be able to partner in ministry. A word that was spoken over us many times in engagement and early marriage was that we would be stronger together than we were apart. I think this book is really an example of that, and the fact that there was really a beauty in the book's collaboration process is really remarkable.
CWH: How did you know Rebecca was the one?
R&C: (Cubbie): There's a lot of layers to that question. The first time we connected, we had a great conversation; it was a very special evening. There's a line in one of Rebecca's songs that says, "waiting for the look in your eye when we meet for the first time." I was not familiar with that song prior to meeting Rebecca, but we definitely had that moment. I left that evening saying there's high potential here. I think within a month or two, I was very sure that she was the one. I dated a handful of girls in the years leading up to her, and none of those girls really came close to that bar, but she surpassed it on every level. (Rebecca): For me, he was the first one that I'd ever fallen in love with. I think that was a lot of confirmation for me, too; my heart had gone there in love in a way that it hadn't been with any of the other guys I dated.
CWH: When you look back at your career, Rebecca, what comes to mind?
R&C: I feel like you really can't anticipate where God's going to lead you. It's kind of the scary part of it in some ways; you have to go where He leads you, but it's also part of the beauty of the Christian life. The adventure of it is that we can trust our good father to lead us in the ways best for us.
