Dove Award-winning singer Colton Dixon says his three-year-old twin daughters have helped deepen his faith and have helped him understand the love of God in a way he previously did not understand. His wife, Annie, gave birth to Ava Dior and Athens Elizabeth in 2020, and the girls turned three last August.
“We're heirs to the throne, and He loves us unconditionally. I love my kids unconditionally,” Dixon told ChristianHeadlines.com. “Just having kids has ignited that part of my relationship with the Lord that I didn't have before. And it's just been so cool to even view myself in that way, and even cut myself some slack. As I view my kids -- God views me that way. … There's no shame, there's no condemnation. We still need to run to Him. And it's not a free pass. But there's so much freedom in that.”
The American Idol alum and Build a Boat singer has been busy the past year, not only in his music career but also on the set of a new television show, Great American Family/Great American Pure Flix’s County Rescue, in which he makes a guest appearance. The show follows a group of EMTs who are in training and competing for a slot. He previously appeared in another series, Live + Local, on Great American Family Pure Flix. “Who knows -- maybe this opens a whole new world for me,” he said while laughing in reference to his acting gigs.
His daughters, he said, have an innate ability to absorb knowledge effortlessly. “So whatever you're putting in front of them, they're going to know it,” he said. That innate ability among children, he said, places a unique responsibility on parents.
“Let's be intentional about what we're putting in so [that] it's not all princesses -- although we love that, too,” he said. “They can quote Scripture. My wife will be like, ‘I can't do,’ and they'll just do, ‘all things through Christ who gives me strength.’ That is just the most mind-blowing thing to me. And it's my favorite thing.” His daughters, he added, make him want to be a better person and father. “They make me want to be the best version of me that I can be,” he said.
Dixon is currently on the Love and Light Tour with Jordan Feliz.
