David Jeremiah Urges Christian Parents to Reject Public Schools: They're 'Brainwashing' Children

Author and pastor David Jeremiah urged his church during an Independence Day weekend sermon to consider pulling their children out of public schools in order to save them from a progressive and atheistic ideology that will "steal" their faith.
Jeremiah, a well-known pastor whose sermons are broadcast nationwide on television and radio, made the remarks during a pair of special "Celebrate America" services at Shadow Mountain Community Church featuring patriotic music. The church is located in El Cajon, Calif. On Saturday, he warned the church about "progressivism," "atheism" and "socialism" that's "being pumped into the schools."
"It's time to rethink Christian education," Jeremiah said Sunday. "... I'm now at the conclusion that the schools that are taking the state's programs are no longer a fitting place for Christian young people to be because they will be so brainwashed by this. We used to worry about our kids being brainwashed in college. Then we thought, well, if we're not careful they'll get brainwashed when they're in high school.
Today, Jeremiah said, public schools "start the brainwashing in the first grade."
"Believe me, I know exactly what I'm talking about. So I don't know where you go with your children – where they go to school; maybe your school happens to be one of the few that doesn't teach all this stuff that's now being put into the curriculum. But you at least owe it to yourself to consider Christian education. … Find a Christian school where you know your children are not going to be fed the falsehoods of socialist ideology that will destroy their lives and steal their faith."
Jeremiah's comments on public schools were part of several "admonitions" he delivered to church members and attendees during an Independence Day weekend sermon.
Jeremiah also urged the audience:
- Refuse to live by lies. "I don't know if you've noticed it, but just about none of the stuff you watch on television is true anymore," he said. "... You can't keep people from telling lies, but you can refuse to live in those lies." Jeremiah encouraged attendees to "do your research" on the issues of the day.
- Run for office and "steer" your community from Leftist ideology. "I don't think any of us realized 10 or 15 years ago when we were being told to run for office how critical it was," he said.
- Get back in church. "Church attendance and church membership in the United States of America is at an all-time low," Jeremiah said. "... We're being told that many people have decided they're not going to go back to church. They like church in their pajamas. They like church in a living room." Jeremiah admonished attendees, "We cannot face the advancing cause that is coming against us if we try to do it alone."
Jeremiah said he is not discouraged about the direction of the country.
"You should not be discouraged, either. The Lord Jesus Christ has prepared us for times just like this. We are living in days foretold of old," Jeremiah said. "The Lord told us about this epic in advance, and it's a privilege to be His agents on this crest of history. We're not helpless, and our world is not hopeless. We can say something, do something, pray something, preach something, and live by the convictions of Christ. Because at any moment, He will descend from heaven for His people."
