Jeremy Camp and Family 'Grateful' after Successful Surgery to Treat Heart Condition

Christian singer Jeremy Camp underwent successful surgery Monday to treat an irregular heartbeat and is resting at home, his wife Adrienne says.

The Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning artist had posted a social media video Sunday asking friends and fans alike to pray for him as he underwent a cardiac ablation procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat (Afib, or atrial fibrillation), which he said causes his heart to beat “really, really fast” to the point he has trouble breathing.

“It was affecting a lot of things. And even tonight, I went into Afib on stage, and I had to cut the set short,” he said. “...It's hard to function.”

Cardiac ablation, according to the Mayo Clinic, involves the insertion of a catheter into a blood vessel and then guiding it to the heart. Camp said doctors would insert the catheter in his leg.

On Monday, Adrienne Camp posted a message on her husband’s social media account and said the surgery was a success.

“Just wanted to give you an update on Jeremy… He’s resting and has to lay completely flat for a while,” she wrote. “He’s enjoying being spoon fed by me. Lol! Surgery was a success but it’ll take a few months to fully heal. We are beyond grateful for how you guys have cared for us in prayer. Also, so grateful for an incredible Dr and staff. ‘My strength and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.’ Ps 73:26.”

Camp said he debated disclosing the surgery to the public.

“I have a lot of people saying to me always, you know, ‘What can we be praying for you?’ And there's a lot of prayer warriors out there -- a lot of people have been praying for me just for different things, and I'm super thankful for it. So I want to bring this to everybody’s attention. …I just would love your prayers.”

Friends and fans alike posted comments of gratitude. Pastor Greg Laurie wrote, “Answered prayer!” Danny Gokey said, “Love you bro.” Singer Jordan Feliz said he was praying. Jonathan Traylor wrote, “Love you guys! Praying for good rest and speedy recovery!”

Camp, during his career, has had 12 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Christian Airplay Chart and 39 songs make the chart.

His story was re-told in the 2020 Kingdom Story Company film, I Still Believe. Adrienne Camp formerly sang in the Dove-nominated group The Benjamin Gate.
