Sarah Reeves Feels Called to Create ‘Wholesome’ Pop that Reaches beyond the Church

The singer known for her ethereal voice and Christian radio hits like Just Want You says she feels called to create music for those beyond the church in this new season of life -- and she's finding success in doing so.

Sarah Reeves' voice was notable on Christian radio for The Belonging Co's Just Want You and her popular single, Details. Today, though, you're just as likely to hear Reeves' music in a local Starbucks or any other mainstream playlist or retail store. That doesn't mean she has abandoned her faith -- just the opposite.

"For so long I was in just solely Christian music, and just the past few years, I felt like God was kind of redirecting me," Reeves told Crosswalk Headlines.

In 2024, Reeves' pop single Get Back Your Fight climbed to No. 17 on America's Hot AC (Adult Contemporary) chart and No. 10 on the United Kingdom's Commercial Pop Club Chart. Later that year, another pop single, More Than Enough, soared up America's Hot AC, peaking at No. 18. Both songs landed on the charts alongside artists such as The Weeknd, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, and Shaboozey.

There is a gap in the market, she believes, for "wholesome music" packed with truth.

"There's so many people that listen to music outside of the church -- obviously -- and there's so many people that will never step foot in a church," Reeves told Crosswalk Headlines. "Where's the music in the world that still comes from the Holy Spirit, but it's not preachy? [There's] nothing wrong with that music -- I still write songs like that. But right now, I just feel this kind of unique calling to the world to write wholesome music that's not explicit, so that people can hear truth.

"And the more that I'm writing these songs, the more I'm finding all of these fans that aren't necessarily Christians, which is amazing to me, because I'm like: This is the whole reason why I'm doing this. I want to reach these people and show them love and truth and show them that there's so much more to life -- ultimately, through God. But right now, my music is more in the pop lane, which is a lot of fun, and I'm enjoying it."

Reeves, who grew up in the church, signed her first record deal at 18.

Now 35, she laughs as she says she's "very different now than that 18-year-old girl" and believes her music career is only just beginning. In recent years, she even learned how to produce her own music, wanting to become a creative force in a space dominated by menGet Back Your Fight was a turning point -- she recorded the first verse, posted it on social media, and was stunned when it went viral.

"I remember my phone blowing up and followers coming in and people sharing it, and I'm like, 'Oh my -- I think this is going viral,' and then quickly wrote the second verse, posted that, the same thing happened, and I realized: Okay, this is the power of social media, and it's the power of being real, like authentic. I was just sharing my authentic journey through music, and people were really resonating with the lyrics."

Music isn't the only outlet where Reeves is making an impact.

Last fall, she made her acting debut in God's Here, a film inspired by a true story that follows a family and community navigating a tragedy. In addition to composing the score and writing songs for the movie, she also met her future husband, Bill McAdams, on set. They married in 2024.

Perhaps her own love story will one day make it to the big screen?

"Maybe so," she said, laughing.
