Tim Tebow Asks: Are You as Committed to Morning Scripture as Morning Coffee?

Tim Tebow asks Christians in a new video if they are as committed to reading the Bible every morning as they are to drinking a cup of coffee, saying it would be “more life-giving than a cup of coffee could ever be.”

The ESPN football analyst and former Heisman Trophy winner made the video in promotion of a new devotional he co-wrote with A.J. Gregory, the Mission Possible One-Year Devotional: 365 Days of Inspiration for Pursuing Your God-Given Purpose.

“Literally, as we were getting ready to film, we were brewing this coffee, and I could read multiple devotionals in the time that this coffee brewed,” Tebow says in the Instagram video. “And I was just thinking: If we did that every day, we would be brewing coffee for energy and focus but would be brewing our soul for what God has in store for our lives.”

Tebow, an outspoken Christian, wrote in a post accompanying the video: “Don’t get me wrong, I love coffee too!”

“But it’s interesting to think about how committed we are to morning tasks like making coffee,” he wrote. “Imagine if we were as committed to being in His presence and His word every morning as we are to coffee. Instead of saying, ‘Before I start my day, I need coffee,’ saying, ‘Before I start my day, I need Jesus!’ Wow, that would be life-changing and more life-giving than a cup of coffee could ever be.”

The devotional is available in versions for adults and young readers.

“At the start of every day, we have a choice: Will we make that day count?” Tebow asks in another video.

The devotional, he says, helps readers discover “the mission God has for us.”

“There are so many distractions in this world,” he says. “They compete for our time, our energy, our thoughts, even our values. Clear your mind. Spend some time with the Lord.”
