Trump Reflects on Prayer and the Hope Religion Brings to Americans

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump opened up about his views on religion, prayer, and Heaven in a new interview where he said he’s concerned the world is on the verge of a major war. The former president commented during a wide-ranging interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, who asked Trump what he prays for, and she acknowledged, “I know you don’t like to really talk about this.”

“I don’t,” Trump said.

Americans, Ingraham said, “want to know that you believe there’s something more than just this world.”

“I do. I think one of the reasons that our country has lost sort of everything — it’s lost so much — is we don’t have religion to the same extent,” Trump answered.

“And the Democrats were violent and ruthless to religion during COVID,” he said. “… But religion, you know, it gives you some hope. Gee, if I’m good, I’m going to Heaven.”

“Do you believe in Heaven?” Ingraham asked.

“I do,” he said. “If I’m good, I’m going to Heaven. And if I’m bad, I’m going to someplace else, like, over there.

“But it gives you — there’s something that is so good for a country,” Trump added, presumably referencing religious belief.

“When you pray, what do you pray for?” Ingraham asked.

“I pray for our country. …Obviously, I pray for the same thing you pray [for] — our family and our country. …We have a family. We have a country. And I guess we have a world — I pray for the world, too,” Trump said.

The former president then said he’s concerned about the world at war.

“We are very close right now to a world war,” Trump said.

“We’re very close to a world where the Middle East is ready to blow up. The Russia-Ukraine thing is much more serious than you even know.”
