‘God Saved My Life to Make America Great Again,’ Trump Says in Inauguration Speech
During his second inauguration speech as the 47th president of the United States, Donald Trump credited God with saving his life "to make America great again." Speaking inside the U.S. in The Capitol's rotunda, Trump addressed the challenges he has faced leading up to today, including the assassination attempt on his life during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July.
"Over the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in a 250-year history, and I've learned a lot along the way [on] the journey to reclaim our republic," he said.
"Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and, indeed, my life ... I believed then, and I believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason."
"I was saved by God to make America great again," he asserted.
The president's speech was one of restoration in America, undoing what his predecessor, Joe Biden, had done during his presidential tenure.
"The golden age of America begins right now," Trump declared.
Trump is reportedly preparing to sign more than 200 executive orders starting on Day 1 as president. During his speech, he said he would declare a national emergency at the southern border as well as a national energy emergency. Additionally, the president has vowed to defeat inflation, end government censorship, and remove policies related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Trump will also sign an executive order today declaring that there are only two genders: male and female.
"From today forward, it will be the official policy of the United States to recognize only two genders: male and female," he said.
Declaring his inauguration as "liberation day," Trump assured Americans, "We will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God."
The 60th Presidential Inauguration ceremony was held indoors inside the United States Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C. instead of outside the Capitol building due to freezing weather, marking the third time the ceremony took place indoors since Ronald Reagan's presidential inauguration in 1985 and William H. Taft's ceremony in 1909 due to harsh weather conditions, respectively.
The presidential oath of office was conducted Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the presidential oath of office, which he has previously carried out in the past four inauguration days. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
