Chicago Man Discovers That the Owner of the Bakery He Loved to Visit Was Actually His Mother

Vamarr had no idea where his birth mother might be living or even if she was, but, unbelievably, she was living in the same South Shore neighborhood in which he resides! Even more surprising was the fact that Vamarr’s mother, Lenore Lindsay, is the owner of Give Me Some Sugah bakery. Without knowing it, he’d been a long-time customer of his own mother’s sweet shop!

Lenore Had Placed Her Infant Son Up for Adoption When She Was 17

Lenore (67) placed her infant son up for adoption when she was 17 years old. Through genetic testing, Vamarr found Lenore. And, though it’s only been a couple of years since the two were reunited, they are making up for lost time. Vamarr, now 50, shared with ABC 7 Chicago, “It's been a great experience. It further strengthens my faith.”

Vamarr began working in the bakery after mother and son connected. Though he had no baking experience, he learned the craft and covered the bakery while Lenore was dealing with a health crisis. Thankfully, Lenore’s health is better, and they often work together. These days, Vamarr is particularly proud of his pound cake. Lenore is particularly proud of her son!

Lenore said, “When I called him, that connection was so immediate. I can't even explain it. It was just like everything in my heart just broke open. It's the most joyful story and time in my life. In my senior years, all of this has come together.”

Vamarr Hopes One of His Children Will Take Over as Bakery Owner Someday

Vamarr, who has four kids of his own, plans to keep the bakery in the family. He hopes one of his children will continue to operate Give Me Some Sugah when he retires. For now, he and Lenore are having a great time running their shop together, and he’s met a host of other relatives. With regard to the years they’ve lost, Vamarr said, “You can't make up for time and days gone by. What you can do is properly utilize the time that you have.”

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
