Grieving Dad Shares How 6-Year-Old Daughter Found Jesus Weeks Before Freak Accident

Jesse Morgan, pastor of Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway, New Jersey, and his family were on vacation at a lake cottage in Maine when tragedy struck. The kids were playing badminton, and then Jesse and Bethany, his wife, heard them screaming.

Lucy Morgan Passed into the Arms of Jesus

“Due to a freak accident with a racquet that broke on a downward swing, a sharp piece had entered Lucy's skull while she was sitting on the sideline and caused catastrophic injury. She was still breathing but unresponsive as I held her with Bethany crying out to God,” Jesse writes in his blog, New Creation Living.

Lucy Morgan was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by helicopter and went right into surgery. She coded during the surgery, but they were able to bring her back. However, a few days later, Lucy passed into the arms of Jesus.

Jesse shared with Fox News Digital about young Lucy’s faith. He began sharing about the prayer journal they got for Lucy about a month before the tragedy.

Lucy Loved Jesus

“I believe she had the faith of a mustard seed. And Jesus calls the children to come to him…and her understanding is limited as a child, and yet that was one of the most beautiful gifts to open up and see the things she wrote. The things she drew,” Jesse says.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that she, in her imperfect understanding of life, loved Christ and loved God,” Jesse said, “And that God welcomed her into heaven.”

Just four weeks before her death, Lucy asked her mom how to be with God and be saved. Bethany explained everything to her and offered to pray with her. Lucy wanted to do it herself, so she went into her room and prayed for God to forgive her and that she believed in Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Jesse comments, “We’ve explained the gospel to our kids every day. It wasn’t a one-time event. We view it as a continual conversation with our children all the time, but doubt circles in. Did I say it right? Did I do it right?”

Finding the Journal Was a Huge Gift

To Jesse and his wife, finding that journal was a huge gift. They received it once they got back to their own home after her death and found it in a backpack. In one of the entries, Lucy wrote, “God is so amazing, and He is the true God, and He created everything, and He died on the cross for our sins.” Jesse shares the entry on his blog along with a few others with her drawings, including what they believe is a picture of Mary and Martha crying over the death of Lazarus.

Her love of Jesus shines through in her journal, which became a great source of comfort for her family after she passed away. It was clear that she loved Jesus with her whole heart.

Writing about everything in his blog has been helpful for Jesse. It’s been a way for him to process his grief. His most recent post is about Lucy’s passing. In the face of unimaginable grief, he writes, “The only reason we can even still stay sane is the grace he shows to us in bringing us this far. We know what he's done, where he's brought us, and where he's bringing us. It's the path that is unknown and often terrifying. Yet, even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, he is with us.”

They Saw Evidence of God’s Grace through it All

He talks about how they have seen so much evidence of God’s grace through all of this. From being able to lie with Lucy for hours as she passed to the support of the people from their church,

Life on earth can be filled with so much joy but also pain. And sometimes we can’t understand why we have to go through the things we do. But the one thing we do know is that God is always there for us, walking with us through it. We pray for Lucy Morgan’s family as they navigate this new reality. May they feel God’s comforting hand and know he is always with them.
