Her Grandfather Kept a Log of Every Memory He Had with Her Grandmother, and It's Precious

Jim and Kay’s love was one of those.

Her Grandfather Kept a Log of Every Memory

When Kayla and her family set out to clean her grandparents’ house, they expected to sort through decades of belongings, but they never expected to find a tangible testament of devotion—a log, carefully typed and recorded, marking nearly 57 years of Jim’s memories with Kay. It was tucked away in his desk, titled simply: “Kay Memories and Dates.”

Every date. Every small, sacred moment.

Every note read like a heartbeat: Popcorn and laundry. A dinner out. A drive through St. Louis.

The grand events and the utterly ordinary ones, recorded with the same reverence. Because love, real love, isn’t only found in candlelit dinners or sweeping, cinematic confessions like running through the airport, or roses covering the ground—it’s in the simple, everyday rhythms.

Kayla Knew Her Grandparents Love Was Special

For Jim, it was the way he noticed her. The way he honored her presence, capturing their life together in ink, as if to say, “I don’t ever want to forget a single moment of loving you.”

Kayla always knew her grandparents’ love was special. Their home was the backdrop of every holiday, tradition, and memory woven into the fabric of their family. But this discovery revealed a depth she hadn’t fully seen before—a love so intentional and so deeply rooted that it was quite literally written down.

Even more precious, the last recorded entry was from 2010. The moments Jim wrote down began to slow as life did, but that didn’t mean the love lessened. If anything, it remained steady, unwavering. A reflection of how God designed love to be—something not just felt, but lived.

Jim’s Log Is a Love Letter

And isn’t that the love God gives us? The kind that keeps showing up? The kind that remembers?

God’s love for us is recorded, too. He writes it into every sunrise, every breath, every quiet moment of mercy. He binds our stories together with His faithfulness, weaving love into the details, the popcorn-and-laundry kind of moments, the moments we sometimes overlook.

Jim’s log is a love letter, but more than that, it’s a reminder:

Love isn’t measured by grand gestures.

Love is measured in time given.

Love is measured in moments remembered.

Love is measured in the way we choose, over and over again, to keep showing up.

Jim Showed Up for Kay

Jim showed up for Kay.

And God? He shows up for us, too.

Maybe today, we take a note from Jim’s book—slow down, write it down, remember the moments, and cherish the ones who walk this life with us. Because true love? True love is always worth recording.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”  Jeremiah 31:3
