Workers Are Nearly Done Removing Roof When They Discover They're at the Wrong House
While this sounds like quite a big mess, the mistake was an unexpected blessing for this Edmond, Oklahoma couple.
Receiving an Unexpected Call
Scott and Deborah were on a business trip when they received a call from Doug Gray, the owner of Graco Roofing Construction Company. "Had to be humble," he said. "We made a mistake, and here's what we can do to fix it."
The couple was not upset when they got the call. "It was pretty funny," Scott told News On 6 about the company accidentally removing their roof. The couple thought they did a phenomenal job and wouldn't have noticed when they returned if they hadn't been told.
"They were very gracious, very sweet," Doug Grey said. "They understood - a little shocked obviously."
How Could This Happen?
How exactly did this mixup happen? The house numbers were mixed up, and the crew went to the wrong house. Then, the project manager went to the right house. That was when they realized the mistake after removing most of the roof from the Senner's house.
That was when Scott and Deborah received a call about their roof. "He's like, well, I don't know how to tell you this, but we're about 75-80% of the way through taking off your roof and realize that we shouldn't have been," Scott tells Inside Edition. They were then sent photos. "It was a crazy sight," Deborah recalls.
A Blessing in Disguise
While this mistake put The Graco Roofing Construction Company out $30,000, Scott and Deborah received a free roof, and the premiums on their homeowner's insurance went down. Talk about a blessing in disguise. "We totally feel like we won the roof lottery for sure," Deborah commented.
And that they did. The couple now recommends the company's services for their quality and, more importantly, their honesty. Doug Gray made everything right. He and his company took responsibility and, because of that, ended up being able to help his business in the long run.
We live in a fallen world, but God is a God of forgiveness; because of that, we, too, should be able to forgive those around us. And you never know. Sometimes what seems like a mistake is really a blessing to be thankful for.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no fickleness, neither shadow of turning." - James 1:17
