We are, in many ways, quite unlovable. We all have a shadow side that can wreak havoc. Yet, Scripture tells us, “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). This is a profound truth. We love because he first loved us. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us, offering us grace when we deserved judgment. We now have the opportunity to love others—in many ways undeserving. Like us, they are fallible, troubled, wrinkled and very human. Just like us.
