Seeing the Humor in Our Struggles
- Published May 07, 2012
When you look back on your vacations, what are the events you remember? I suspect, if you are like me, it is those times when you blew out a tire on the Los Angeles freeway, the mosquitoes in Northern Minnesota, your lost wallet in New York, or perhaps something more personal—the argument you had where you didn’t talk to each other all afternoon. Discovering the humor in these events make them more palatable. Seeing the silliness in some of your actions make them tolerable, perhaps even enjoyable. It’s not that we want calamity, but that we find ways to weave these events into the fabric of our lives and not let them define us. Can you laugh at some of your idiosyncrasies that have caused problems? Scripture encourages us not to take ourselves too seriously Romans 12:3)—good medicine.
