Isa. 43:18-19: "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland (NIV).

As a consequence of their disobedience to God, the Israelites were defeated by the Babylonians. While living in exile, they felt abandoned by the Lord. He had demonstrated His power in the past by leading their fathers out of Egypt, but where was God's power now? Isaiah delivered this message of hope and reassured them that God was in the process of doing a mighty thing.

When we hit rough patches in our parenting journey, we, like the Israelites, might feel as if God has forgotten us. When we don't see the change we desperately long for, we sometimes wonder if we will ever see His power in our lives again. No matter what your present circumstances may be, God is the same mighty God that He has always been. Although we don't know the specifics of His plan for our lives and the lives of our children, stand firm in the knowledge that He has the power to restore relationships and make "streams in the wasteland".

Remember God's faithfulness in the past and trust in His timing and power.
