Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Everyone would like to be around this kind of person!
Imagine meeting a new person at work or college who’s patient and kind, not jealous, doesn’t brag and isn’t arrogant. They don’t talk or act in a rude way. They’re not always looking out for themselves, but genuinely care about you. They aren’t easily offended. And when you do wrong them, they don’t hold onto it, but easily forgive you. They aren’t into worldly jokes, but have an awesome time in things that are right. They really believe in you and have a hope for the future based on their trust in God. This takes them through tough times.
You’d want to spend time with that person, wouldn’t you? They’d have a big influence on your life. The real person of influence in this world is the person who loves.
I encourage you to write out these verses, replacing the word ‘love’ with your name. Then cross out the descriptive words that you could not say about yourself. Take time to pray and ask God to build these specific attitudes into your life.
