Pressing On - One Year Devotions for Women

“Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him! Then he will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.” - Hosea 6:3

The people of Israel were not committed to God. They did not repent of their sins. The prophet Hosea pled with the people: “Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him! Then he will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring” (Ho-sea 6:3). The people thought they knew God, but they had not “pressed on” to know him.

Whether you can recall that first invitation to Christ or not, it is more important to answer the question, “Am I a Christian now?” Then you must think about whether you know him better now than you did when you first met him; in other words, have you grown, “pressed on”?

When we look at the call of the disciples to follow Jesus, we see three things—an introduction to Jesus, an investigation of Jesus, and ongoing instruction by Jesus. Are you getting to know Jesus rather than just knowing facts about him? Have you investigated and understood the Christianity you have embraced? Are you being in-structed by him now? Being a disciple means pressing on to know the Lord. Are you pressing on, or have you gotten stuck somewhere along the way? “Return to the Lord,” as Hosea calls you to do (Hosea 6:1). Then you will find God’s sweet response as sure as the coming of the dawn.
