Appreciating Quirks

As a student of human behavior, I notice the quirks in people. At times, if they directly impact me, the quirks can be irritating. However, these quirks are often what set one person apart from another. These same quirks—the way they dress, talk or behave—are unique aspects of character, most often said or done unintentionally. These quirks are usually innocuous and need not upset us. In fact, they can bring a smile to our face. We can give a knowing glance, recognizing that we too have quirks and want people to indulge them. Next time you are with a friend or family member and notice a quirk, just smile, knowing this is an aspect of their character that is not likely to change and can actually bring texture and life to your interaction with them.
