Holiday Hurry and My Earthly Worry

Today's Special is: Finding Quiet in Holiday Chaos
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Dawn Mast
Main Ingredient:
But I have stilled and quieted my soul…
Psalm 131:2 NIV
Entree:
All I did was answer the phone. In the swirling, twirling of my already busy day, I heard the nurse say bizarre things such as, "biopsy results," "atypical cells," "let's set up surgery." I wanted to say, "Wrong number!"
It's right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't have time for this.
I homeschool 4 kiddos. I don't have time for this.
My husband is a doctor at an insanely busy practice. I need him there for my surgery, but what if he can't reschedule patients. Neither of us have time for this.
I have soooo much to do! I don't have time for this!
It's not about time. It's about trust.
As if this time of year isn't already over-the-top busy, I have something really unpleasant thrown my way.
So, now what do I do?
I try and still my wildly beating heart, my waves of worry that morph into nausea and my frenetic breathing with one word.
Jesus.
This season, and every season really, is about Him. He knows my heart, my future and my current health situation. He can still this crazy, busy pace if I allow myself to place that phrase, "I don't have time for this..." into His capable hands. He is time. He was from the beginning (1 John 1:1).
He makes time even when we don't. Time was His idea in the first place. Then He said something to my heart that changed my stressful fight with time: "The only time that time really matters to Me, is when I'm spending it with you".Oh. My.
He wants my time. My hectic, crazy time pieces so He can hand it back to me as holy, consecrated peace from being in His presence.
Give yourself and your Savior the greatest gift of time spent together in each other’s presence. No matter what you are facing or fearing, He will always make time for you, no matter what the season.
Take Out:
We all have busy lives. Even retired people claim to not have enough time.
To have time for the most important part of your day, set a timer for 15 minutes and go to a quiet/semi-quiet place. Just spend that time in prayer or Bible reading time. Those precious moments with the Lord will help fuel your day with true peace and stillness in your soul.
Dessert:
Father God, in the name of Your Son, Jesus, we give You our restlessness and times that are anything but still and quiet. Especially at this time of year when there are so many good things (Christmas programs, school events, musicals, family gatherings, shopping and celebrations in honor of Your birthday). We run ourselves ragged, but sometimes forget to run to You. Please show us true moments of what it means to be still before You so we can be blessed by the true meaning of the season. Amen.
