Does God Keep His Promises?

Café Menu for Monday, December 22, 2014

Today’s Special is: Trusting God’s Promises in Spite of Our Past Pain From Others

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Savannah Parvu

Main Ingredient:

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

 Hebrews 10:23 NIV

Entrée:

For some of us, trusting others is not easy. Maybe it takes you longer to trust people than it takes someone else. Perhaps some of us may even think that we will never allow ourselves to trust anyone again. We think if we do this, we can protect ourselves from being hurt. Do you have a hard time trusting that God will keep His promises?

Because of past abuse, I spent more than 10 years alone. I kept everyone at a distance and I did not even know who the Lord was. Due to keeping everyone at a distance, they couldn’t hurt me; but they also couldn’t love me, which only caused more pain.

A couple years ago, when I accepted Christ, everything began to change. I have had to do my part in allowing Him to change me, but I am learning that He is always faithful. The Bible is filled with the Lord’s promises and I am finding each of them to be true. The first time I read Psalm 27:10 I felt as if it was written just for me.

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Psalm 27:10 NIV

After being abandoned when I was 13 years old, I felt like I was a mistake; but that verse made me feel, for the very first time, like I was wanted. I am able to have hope because my hope is in God and He is faithful. No matter how good someone’s intentions are, people will always disappoint us in some way or another, but God never will.

Take Out:

Take time today to thank God for keeping His promises to you.

Dessert:

Dear Lord, thank You for always being faithful and true to Your Word. Thank You for Your promises. Help us to always remember that in You, we can have hope because You are with us always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
