Resting in your righteousness
February 25
So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. - Romans 7:4
In 1949, time technicians at the National Institute of Standards & Technology set a new level of precision with the invention of the atomic clock. Accurate to one second every three years, the clock counted oscillations of the nitrogen atom in an ammonia molecule to keep time.
Years later, the NIST discovered a more accurate way to keep time by using the vibrations of cesium atoms, leading to an accuracy of one second every 300,000 years. The next great breakthrough, using a single mercury ion trapped in a vacuum by laser beams will be accurate to one second every 10 billion years!
For technicians like these, accuracy and precision are everything. This was the attitude of the Pharisees when it came to obedience to the Law in Jesus’ day—everything had to be perfect! But the reality is that no one could ever keep the Law of Moses perfectly, which is the very reason it was given… to be a diagnosis of the fallenness and sinfulness of mankind.
Praise God that because we’re in Christ, we’re not bound to the Law of Moses—nor any other law for that matter—in order to be accepted by God. Instead, it is God’s grace that makes us holy, not our works.
Don’t fall into a works-based system of acceptance by God. You’ll never be good enough on your own. Instead, rest in the truth that Jesus has paid completely for your sins and you’ll live with Him forever!
