But this is not true of the wicked. They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. - Psalm 1:4
We ought not get our advice from people who don’t care about God. Do you listen to the opinion makers of the day—film stars, models, important women in top jobs, glossy-magazine editors? Do you do things you’d rather not do, go places you’d rather not go, and say things you’d rather not say to be accepted among your nowhere friends? Do you stay silent when your peers make a mockery of everything sacred?
Do you feel you are a “nowhere person”? Do you know you are going nowhere in life, and, in death, somewhere that’s like nowhere forever?
Nowhere men and women follow the advice of the wicked, stand around with sinners, and join in with scoffers (Psalm 1:1). The psalm tells us nowhere people are “worthless chaff”—used throughout Scripture as a symbol of the weak and worthless. These people have no substance to them. In the Middle East, grain is thrown up in the air in an open space to allow the wind to winnow out the residue. But when the fan or shovel of God’s power throws nowhere people up to the wind of his judgment, they will not be found again. The psalmist knew that “they will be condemned at the time of judgment” (Psalm 1:5). However, the moment a nowhere person decides to go somewhere with God, she will be taken by the hand and led home!
