Read Time is Seed Time - One Year Devotions for Women

A time to plant and a time to harvest. - Ecclesiastes 3:2

You don’t plant seeds in frozen soil. You don’t wait until autumn to prepare the ground. You plant seeds in the warm, moist springtime. That way you have a chance to pluck up that which you have planted.

I take every opportunity I am given to tell young mothers these things. It’s hard to be a young mom these days. Many a single parent is left to cope with two or three toddlers. Trying to juggle a job and manage a home leaves little time to plant seed thoughts from God’s Word in the moist soil of a child’s springtime.

I am convinced the first five years of a child’s life are vital. What they learn in these years shapes much of their future. This is the time to talk of Jesus and his friendship, and of God their Father and his care. This is the time to share picture books of their Savior and to tell stories that make Bible people walk off the pages and become their friends.

Read time is seed time! It will have to be a priority or it will never get done. The devil will see to that. He hates the little children and their springtimes. But if you would harvest a crop of Christian children who would minister to others, and perhaps to you in your old age, you will have to minister to them in their youth!
