What If We Didn’t Worry
Café Menu for Tuesday, June 09, 2015
Today’s Special is: The Sin of “What If”
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell
Main Ingredient:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:34 NKJV
Entrée:
Do you ever wonder what if? What if I lose my job? What if my husband gets sick?
Here is mine: What if we grow old and there is no one to help us?
We all do it, but it is still sin. Jesus gave the command not to worry several times in Matthew chapter 6. We are also commanded not to be fearful (Isaiah 41:10; Matthew 10:31).
Worry has a detrimental effect on our physical health, but it also affects us spiritually. It shows a lack of trust in God, who has promised to be our helper. He has promised to supply our every need, and He has promised to give us grace sufficient for every trial.
As children we trusted our parents to provide for us, so why can’t we trust our heavenly Father to provide for us according to His boundless riches?
We spend so much time and energy worrying about something that may never happen, but it doesn’t keep trouble away. Don’t we have enough on our plates to deal with today instead of borrowing trouble from tomorrow? That is what Jesus was saying in this verse.
God not only is our Helper, Provider and Comforter, but He grants us new mercies every day.
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
Even if tomorrow brings trouble, tomorrow will also bring new mercies from our faithful Father.
Take Out:
Let’s change our “what if’s” to “even if” and tell our worries that they will be met by our merciful God.
Dessert:
Dear Lord, thank You for new mercies every morning. Thank You for providing for me, protecting me and helping me through every trial. Forgive me for worrying and fearing. Lord, help me send those worries away with a deeper trust in You, my loving Father. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
