Prayer and Peace

Prayer and peace – they go hand in hand. If we want to retain the peace that "transcends all understanding" then we need to pray. God's instructions are profoundly simple: if we want to be anxious for nothing, we must pray about everything (Philippians 4:6). No matter what kind of fear-inducing life event we may be facing, God's answer to the inner turmoil that plagues our frail spirits is to get face down and pour out our hearts to him (Psalm 62:8). He is our refuge and our strength (Psalm 46:1). Talking to our friends or talking to ourselves may give us a temporary sense of comfort and security, but for the one who has been adopted into God's family he can readily say with the psalmist, "My soul finds rest in God alone" (Psalm 62:1). So let's pray. Let's really pray. Let's tell God what concerns us and tell him what we would prefer him to do about it. And as we get up from our heartfelt expressions to God, let us trust him to "guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).

Passing on a spiritual legacy to our children and grandchildren is a critical task of Christian parents and grandparents. When we look at the sad spiritual state of the Israelites in Judges after the death of Joshua, we see a failure of one generation to pass on the knowledge of God to the next. The writer of Judges says multiple times, "There arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel" (Judges 2:10).

At Focal Point, we want to help you in passing on the knowledge of God to the next generation. That's why we have chosen a rich resource called, Big Truths for Young Hearts: Teaching and Learning the Greatness of God. We trust this book will be a valuable tool in the task of training up your children
