Today’s Special is: When My Want Meets God’s Plenty
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Angela Mackey
Main Ingredient:
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 ESV
Entrée:
My soul felt dry – like the Sahara.
I felt like I already poured out all the patience and kindness I could muster in my first five waking minutes. And my feet hadn’t hit the floor yet.
My mind reeled with what-ifs, what-next, and whys. As I processed the events of the past few days I began to strategically plan my next move – without knowing if the ball would ever be in my court again.
The more I attempted to figure it out and make sense of it all, the shorter my patience became and the drier my soul felt. I longed for a sip of soul-satisfying water, but I settled for holding tight to my hopes and dreams.
Then God whispered to my soul from His Word:
...for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Jeremiah 2:13 ESV
So I laid down my shovel labeled “fix-it myself” because the well I was digging was broken and empty. Then I ran to the Fountain of Living Waters and let go of my “what-ifs,” “what-next,” and “whys.” Then God quenched the dryness of my soul with Himself, His promises, His peace that passes understanding.
God met my want with His gushing overflowing amazing fountain of living waters. He can do the same for you.
Take Out:
What well are you digging? What broken cistern are you trying to drink from? What do you need to let go of so you can be filled from the Fountain of Living Waters?
Write it down on a piece of paper, pray that God will help you give it to Him, and then wad that paper up and throw it away.
Dessert:
Father God, thank You that You are the Fountain of Living Water. Help us to stop digging broken cisterns that cannot satisfy our deepest longings. Help us lay down anything that keeps us coming to You for our source of joy, hope and life. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
