“Again they sought to arrest him [Jesus], but he escaped from their hands. He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” And many believed in him there.”
Live as a witness and trust God to do his work in people’s hearts over time!
As you read these verses it’s clear that John the Baptist’s witness was a huge factor in these people believing in Jesus. It’s also clear that they did not believe at the time John talked to them about Jesus. When God gives you a chance to speak to someone about Jesus, or to share a bit of what he means to you, and they are not ready to put their faith in him on the spot—don’t think negatively about that encounter.
Rather, be excited and thankful to God for the chance to be a part of that person’s journey towards faith in Jesus. What you shared has gone into their minds and will impact the way they think about Jesus and process other things in the future. Keep looking for further opportunities to share with that person or to pray with them.
Pray that God will bring other people and experiences into their lives to reveal himself to them.
Trust God that you have been a part of his plan for their lives.
