God’s Loving Eye Is on You

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8 NIV
Several years ago, I was living in a two story townhouse that had been built on a slope with no covered parking. Because of the challenges of my cerebral palsy, it was getting harder and harder to do the regular things like carry groceries in from the car and carry laundry and other things up and down the stairs. The leaves and hickory nuts that covered the sidewalk in the fall also made the outside dangerous.
I can remember having some very lively conversations with God as I told Him my fears about home ownership. After all, I had promised my friend, Terri, I would never stand on a ladder. Since I promised not do that, how was He going to change the light bulbs and batteries in the smoke alarm? My family lived over 900 miles away so they weren’t available. It was a daily exercise in waiting and trusting in God.
For over a year I prayed for wisdom and insight. I also heard my friends say things like, “I like to paint. I like to do such and such”. So one day I started making a list of different things people liked to do. After months of prayer and through some pretty amazing circumstances, God opened the doors for me to buy the house I now own. I can’t tell you what delight it gave me to be able to see God work as I repeatedly heard the phrase, “Well, that will never happen.” His fingerprints were all over the details and the big things, too.
When I closed on the one level house, I had a packing team, moving team, painting team, flooring team, and a design team. Each person who participated left his or her mark on my home. I have some incredible memories of God mobilizing the body of Christ to meet my needs. I met a lot of new friends who just wanted to help out and to this day I can walk through my home and describe different things based on who did what as God provided for everything I needed. What a rich blessing!
- As you think of your day, what do you need that only God can supply?
- Ask Him and believe that He is able.
Father, thank You that You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides. Thank You that I know You and can trust You to know what is best.
