We Were Created to Work
A worker is worthy of his food.
Matthew 10:10, nkjv
Jesus Christ knew He had been sent to earth from heaven to save mankind from sin. Yet for thirty years He worked in a carpentry shop in Nazareth. Talk about being overqualified for a job! And although the apostle Paul knew he had been sent from God to evangelize the world, establishing the church in the first century, he supported himself and others through tent making.
What job do you think is beneath you? Very often people refuse to work unless it’s in a job that meets their qualifications and goals. All around us are men and women who, when they are laid off work because their company downsizes, just sit around, send out resumes, and complain that they are out of work. It takes only a glance at the classified ads in the newspaper to know there is plenty of work out there if we are just willing to take on a job we may be very overqualified for and one that doesn’t match our lifetime career goals. You and I were created to work. Any honorable, respectable job is better than no work at all. So . . . stop sitting, keep looking, and start working!

What are the secrets to a life of impact? Daniel achieved greatness in the eyes of his contemporaries, in the eyes of history, and most importantly, in the eyes of God. His faith did not waver as he faced his critics, as he served new kings in power, or even as he confronted hungry lions. How can we achieve that kind of faith today? Twenty intentional, key choices made all the difference. Daniel’s choices can be ours, such as:
• The choice to listen
• The choice to forgive
• The choice to pray
