Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
Once, a little boy went to the store for his mother, and as he was walking home carrying a very heavy bag of groceries, his neighbor stopped to give him a ride.
Even in the car, he held the bag burdened with its weight until the driver said, “Son, I’m giving you a ride so you don’t have to carry that heavy load anymore.”
Sometimes, we are like that little boy. We go to God in prayer with our troubles, but when we leave, we pick those troubles back up and take them with us.
Peter tells us to cast our cares on the Lord. It is not surprising that Peter used the word “cast” since he was a fisherman. Peter was familiar with casting nets out into the sea to catch fish. “Cast” has the connotation of throwing an item onto something else.
Once we give our burdens to God, we don’t need to let them trouble us anymore.
Notice that it is “all” of our cares that we are to cast on Him, not only the big problems, but the little ones too. It means that we give everything to Him. This includes anything from an overwhelming day to a life threatening illness.
Jesus loves us so much that He is concerned about everything in our lives. He wants us to trust Him and not be consumed, even with the mundane things of life.
For example, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told us not to worry about food or clothing.
Friend, He died on the cross so that we can spend eternity with Him. Will He not care for us now?
As long as we are in this troublesome life, give your burdens to Him. One day, we will no longer need to cast our cares upon Him, for we will be casting crowns at His feet.
Once you pray about something, leave it at the foot of the cross. Continue to pray about it, but don’t allow it to trouble you. How can you remind yourself that you no longer carry this burden?
Dear Heavenly Father, I am laying my burdens down at the cross. I am leaving them with You. Thank You for loving me and caring about every aspect of my life. Amen.
