THE LIGHT WITHIN THIS PALACE
I started my day as I always do. I made coffee, and I went to sit on the end of the couch near the lamp to read my Bible and pray. Before the first sip of coffee touched my lips I heard God say,
“You are a palace in which I dwell; your inheritance is not based on what you see with your eyes. You are royalty. The light that shines from within is Me; it can be seen nations away by evil and good spirits. They know where you live because I live within you. Do not fear. It is not you they see, but Me within you.”
I quietly sat and waited for the coffee to finish percolating. The coffee pot made such an ordinary sound. It seemed odd to hear it after hearing God speak to my spirit. I smiled. My spirit leaped within me, and I said, “I am a palace in which God dwells. I have a royal inheritance. God’s light is brighter than any darkness. God’s authority prepares a way for me.” I poured my first cup of coffee and I said, “Cheers, God. Cheers to who You are within me.”
I don’t remember the rest of that particular day. Everything else seemed good and fine because I started my day with God. It seemed like a special day. It is not every day that I open the Bible and hear God speak to me before I begin to read and pray. Some days, I spend an hour with God in His Word, and I don’t necessarily hear Him speak like that. Let’s also say that He is always speaking in His Word. When we read His Word, He is speaking to us. But, sometimes, I hear Him speak in my spirit to me. I will say, however, that the more I dedicate myself to spending time with Him in His Word, the more my spirit hears Him speak. Obedience and commitment to Him results in communion with His Spirit.
I encourage you to reach for Him in His Word today, and wait and watch as He reaches up from within you – the palace in which He dwells.
For this is what the Lord commanded us: “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”
