SOUNDS REFLECT OFF OF THE WATER
Lk 5:1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God,
Lk 5:2 he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.
Lk 5:3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
Jesus taught from the boat. They could hear better because sound reflects off of the water. While contemplating this little principle of physics one day, God reminded me of a deeper spiritual truth. Jesus is our living water, and a life that reflects Him is full of profound purpose, passion, and perseverance.
Jesus is the water that brings life to the soul. By drinking the living water one can live and never thirst again. Jesus is the living water. Water was scarce in Jesus' day, yet water was as much a necessity for life then as it is today. Just as the physical body needs water to continue living, so does the spirit. Jesus is the water needed by the spiritual part of us. Without Jesus the soul will eventually die. The soul is thirsty and we try to quench that thirst with many things that satisfy for a while, but eventually we get thirsty again. The only thing that can truly quench the thirst of the spirit is the living water, Jesus Christ.
Jn 4:13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
Jn 4:14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I wonder if there is an opportunity for you today to get in a boat and amplify some hope as you speak out across the water about the Living Water.
