Power in Unity
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” (
During World War II, a group of pilots known as the Flying Tigers became legendary. Under their commander, Claire Lee Chennault, they managed to down nearly 300 Japanese aircraft over a period of six months, from December, 1941, to June, 1942. What was their secret? Chennault said it was cooperation. Although they were outnumbered, they always attacked in teams.
Roman soldiers also knew the value of working together. When they marched into battle and were barraged with flaming arrows, they put their shields up, linked them together, and hunkered down, effectively forming a box around themselves.
When we go through temptation, hardship, despair, or even doubt, sometimes we’ll isolate ourselves. We think, “I don’t want to share this with anyone. They might think I’m not a strong Christian. I don’t want to tell anyone that I’m being tempted by this.”
You should go to your Christian friends and say, “Will you pray for me right now? I’m under attack.”
Jesus said, “If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19 nkjv). There is power in united prayer.
When we read in the twelfth chapter of Acts that James was put to death and Peter was arrested, what do we see the church doing? We see them getting together and praying for Peter. They prayed constantly, and they prayed together. We need to do the same. That is putting our shields together.
There is power in unity, in working together and praying together. You are not alone in this spiritual battle. You have Christian brothers and sisters who are marching with you. Pull together with your fellow soldiers and lock shields as you march forward in the spiritual battle to which God has called you.
