Closed Doors - Beloved Women - November 29, 2018
READ
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. - Proverbs 19:21 NIV
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
I couldn’t believe it — a job offer I’d received was retracted before I could sign the contract. My employment search was proving more difficult than expected. After submitting countless applications, there’d been no positive result. Though this job wasn’t the best fit, I planned to accept it because something was better than nothing. Disappointed, I believed the closed doors in front of me were an indication that God had let me down.
Thankfully, that’s not where the story ends.
As God would have it, a few weeks later I received a call and was offered a full-time position with more pay that was closer to home! The earlier “no” ultimately opened the door for me to accept a better opportunity. This experience bolstered my trust in the Lord. “We may make a lot of plans, but the LORD will do what he has decided” (Proverbs 19: 21 CEV). When we remember this truth, we can know that our steps are ordered and closed doors are moving us closer to where He wants us to be.
PRAY
Father, even when doors close and things don’t turn out how we expect, help us to trust that You are ordering our steps and sending us exactly where you want us to be. Though we may make our plans, teach us how to submit to your will. Show us how to discern our next steps after we encounter a closed door, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
REFLECT
Can you recall a time when a closed-door turned out to be a good thing for you?
