An Interruption . . . or Intervention?
One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. (Exodus 3:1–2 NLT)
After forty years in the desert, Moses was ready to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He just didn’t know he was ready. One day as he was watching the sheep, Moses saw a bush that was on fire but wasn’t burning up. When he walked over to see what was going on, God spoke to him through that bush and recommissioned him.
Sometimes when you’re going about your day and there’s an interruption, it actually may be a divine intervention. Or maybe you’ve experienced a disappointment in your life. You thought you should have done a certain thing, but God said no, and you were disappointed. Sometimes a disappointment is God’s appointment for you.
When I was a brand-new Christian, I met a girl who I thought was amazing. As we were talking one day, I said, “Would you like to go out to dinner with me sometime?” She said no. But she happened to have a really cool Volkswagen van. My car, a Corvair, was always breaking down. One day I got into a collision, and my front headlights literally were crisscrossed. But the car kept running, so I kept driving it.
Eventually, a police officer pulled me over and effectively told me to get that car off the road. I had been driving from Orange County to Riverside to speak at a Bible study that eventually became Harvest Christian Fellowship, and suddenly I didn’t have a car. So the nice girl who didn’t want to go out to dinner with me allowed me to borrow her Volkswagen van. Then I met Cathe. You see, Cathe was the one the Lord had chosen for me.
So maybe God has said no to you, and it’s a disappointment. But it can be His appointment. An interruption can be His intervention.
