A Gentle Answer – Beloved Women - February 6, 2019
READ
A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. - Proverbs 15:1 NLT
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
My words are not always gentle to those closest to me. Outside forces, like a bad day at the office, can cause me to lash out at those I love most. Or sometimes, I am more concerned about being right than trying to find common ground. When I demand my way, tempers flare and feelings are hurt.
The tongue can give life to someone or tear them down. Our words carry more weight than we realize sometimes. Proverbs 16:24 reminds us “gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”. (NIV)
With practice and prayers for help, I strive to check my words before uttering them. I try to remember to watch my words in print too. What I write on social media also needs to be filtered through these verses in Proverbs because God wants us to use our words to be a comfort to the hurting world around us.
PRAY
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me in spite of all my faults. Thank You for teaching me to watch my words so they reflect Your love always. Please help me to remember to think about my words before I offer them to those around me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
REFLECT
What can you do to make sure your words are always like honey?
