Bible Verses About Mothers

Bible Verses About Mothers

The Bible says many beautiful things about mothers.

Proverbs 31:25-30 says, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are kind, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 'There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!' Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”

What Jesus Says about Women

Jesus saw women as having an intrinsic value equal to that of men. He saw them as human beings and not second class citizens, which was how they were treated at that time. He wasn’t concerned about their sex, age, or marital status but was more concerned about their relationship with God.

He addressed women in public, regardless of the situation they were in, and spoke to them with thoughtfulness and caring. He didn’t approve of the sins of the women he met; instead, he confronted them, knowing that they had free will to repent and turn back to God.

Jesus regarded women with the highest regard, showing them worth and dignity as human beings. He valued their friendship, prayers for him, financial support, and witness. He honored them, taught them, and thoughtfully ministered to them.

Bible Verses about Women

10. “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down." Proverbs 14:1

12. “Similarly teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. The Example of Hannah, an Amazing Mother in the Bible

The Example of Hannah, an Amazing Mother in the Bible

A great story about a Mom from the Bible is the story of Hannah. Hannah was married to a man who loved her very much, but he also had another wife. The other wife was able to have children, but the Lord had not worked this miracle in Hannah’s womb. Even though the other wife was mean to her, Hannah continued to pray to the Lord and was eventually blessed with a son, Samuel. She told the Lord that if He blessed her with a son that she would give her son to Him.

Hannah continued to be faithful, and the Lord blessed her. When Samuel was old enough, she took him to the church and presented him to the priest, where he continued to live out his days serving the Lord. I love how even though Hannah had her doubts and wasn’t sure if she would ever have children, she continued to be faithful in the Lord. This goes to show that even when we aren’t sure how things are going to turn out, the best thing to do is be faithful to the Lord and watch to see what He is going to do.

The moms in our lives, whether they are our own, someone else’s, or our surrogate moms, deserve to have the best Mother’s Day ever. Take some time to find the perfect gift, plan a great meal, and write one of these heartfelt verses in a card, all the while thanking God for the many “moms” in our lives.

A Mother's Day Prayer

Dear Father, we approach your throne on behalf of the mothers whom you have entrusted with the care of your most precious little ones. We thank you for creating each mom with a unique combination of gifts and talents. We thank you for the sacrifice of self each mom gives for her children. For the late nights spent rocking a colicky infant. For the hands calloused from washing, wiping, scrubbing, mixing, backing, stirring, hugging, patting, disciplining, holding, writing, erasing, painting, and pouring.

We thank you for the gift of time moms give for their kids, whether it’s stay-at-home moms, working moms, and moms who have some combination of the two. We thank you for the flexibility of moms, for their tirelessness, their perseverance, and their devotion.

We pray you give each mom strength. Help her to see in every mundane task the eternal, cosmic significance that you place on motherhood. Help her to understand that the most radical, world-changing events may be happening anonymously in her home. Help her to forgive those who undermine her significance.

Most of all, Lord, on this day in which we honor mothers, may we love and cherish the special women who have born us, who have nurtured us, and who have prayed for our well-being. May our hearts overflow with gratitude to you, who formed and knitted each of us in a mother’s womb.  Amen.  - Daniel Darling
