Hands-on Faith for Families – Week of May 27, 2019
Theme: Seek God in All Things
Eyes on the Light
Scripture: Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (1 John 2:9-11)
Play: Choose one person to hold a flashlight. In a darkened room, have other family members close their eyes. The flashlight holder should point the flashlight toward one person and then another, slowly. With eyes closed, everyone should turn toward the light and try to keep their faces in the direction of the light as it moves.
Talk: The Bible tells us that anyone who hates others is in darkness, but those who love are in the light (1 John 2:9-11). Jesus commanded us to love one another, so we disobey Him when we hate others. Hate is like a blindfold that makes it hard for us to follow God’s light and do His will. If we take off the blindfold by choosing to love others, no matter what they have done, then we can see clearly to obey God and serve others. How would the relationships around you change if you asked God to remove your hate and put on His love?
Pray: Ask God to help you love everyone and follow His light.
