Hands-on Faith for Families – Week of July 29, 2019
Theme: Put on the Full Amor of God
Sword of the Spirit
Scripture: …and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17 ESV)
Play: See who can name the most methods and weapons that people might use to defend themselves in a war.
Talk: Soldiers use many different ways to defend themselves in a battle. The Bible talks about a weapon, the “Sword of the Spirit,” that God wants all of us to use as we defend truth (Ephesians 6:17) and fight the Enemy (Satan). That weapon is the Bible. To use it as God intends, we study and memorize it. Just like a sword is useful for defense, so is God’s Word. He wants us to use the Sword of the Spirit (God’s Word) to destroy lies — the Enemy’s greatest weapons — such as “God doesn’t love me” or “God can’t forgive me.” How can knowing what the Bible says help us use the truth to defend ourselves?
Pray: Thank God for giving us the Bible to help us defend truth.
