Watch What You Are Thinking – Beloved Women – September 25, 2024

“Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” (Genesis 18:14 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
Twenty-four years passed between God making a covenant with Abram in Genesis 12:2 and Abraham and Sarah receiving a visit from three visitors. In this encounter, the visitors told Sarah that this time next year she would have a child.
Her initial response was doubt and sarcasm as indicated in Genesis 18:12: “So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” (NIV)
Sarah’s initial thoughts countered the blessing that the Lord was promising her.
This is sometimes the case in our lives as well. God promises abundance but in our thoughts we choose lack. God offers security but in our thoughts we choose insecurity. Faith compels us to focus on the truth of God’s word rather than the facts of our circumstances. God’s irrevocable promise for Sarah in spite of her lack of faith is a tangible reminder that God is able to do the same in our lives.
PRAY
Dear God, Thank You for the promises You offer us in the word of God. Please help me to focus on the truth of Your word rather than the facts of our circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECT
What has God promised you in his word?
