How to Respond to Temptation – Beloved Women – October 16, 2024

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
Whether it is food, a relationship, or an unnecessary purchase, we all have our temptations. Even Jesus was tempted when he lived on earth, yet He was without sin. His response to temptation is a model for us to follow.
In Luke 4: 1 - 2 we see that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days where he was tempted by the devil. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been to resist the temptation of the enemy? When we face temptation, for the most part, it is momentary, but here we see Jesus’ season of temptation lasted 40 days.
Each time the devil tempted Jesus, He countered the temptation with the truth of God’s word. Through the example of Jesus, we’re reminded we must consistently read the Word of God in order to use it as a weapon against temptation. In reciting scripture we submit ourselves to God and allow Him to work in us.
PRAY
Dear God, Thank You for the promises You offer us in Your Word. Please help us to focus on the truth of Your Word rather than the facts of our circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECT
What has God promised you in His Word?
