Genesis 2:18 MSG
Thoughts for Today
God designed marriage to be a wonderful thing. We've found these truths in the Scriptures this week:
- God created marriage.
- God designed marriage to be a relationship between a man and a woman.
- God designed marriage to be monogamous.
- God's design for marriage is for physical and spiritual unity.
- God designed marriage to be permanent.
- A husband and wife reflect Christ and the church.
Consider this …
Today's scripture reminds us that God's design for marriage helps deal with one of mankind's greatest needs—loneliness. A husband and wife become a team.
Are you and your spouse companions? Here's a better focus: what kind of companion are you for your spouse? Do you show an interest in his or her activities? Are you a good listener? Do you put your spouse's needs above your own? Do you spend quality time together? Are you your spouse's best friend?
Reflect on ways you can be a better companion. Ask God to help you ... and then be creative!
Prayer
Father, I want to be a good companion for my spouse, and I know I fail in that sometimes. Please forgive me and help me do better. In Jesus' name ...
These thoughts were drawn from … Committed Couples: God's Plan for Marriage & the Family by Dr. Jimmy Ray Lee. Whether in a private or group setting, couples will be encouraged spiritually and romantically as they research biblical principles that affirm their vows. This book can help every married couple grow spiritually and emotionally in their relationship. It is also a great help for engaged-to-be-married couples.
