“Jesus stood up and said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.’” (John 8:10-11 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
I have a friend who runs away from God. No matter how many times I reach out, love on her, and explain to her that Jesus will meet her right where she is, she hesitates because she fears God’s rejection. I get it.
What about you? How many times has a fear of condemnation kept you from approaching God?
Perhaps after you fell into the same sin, you avoided God thinking, “How could He forgive me when I keep doing the same thing over and over.”? Or maybe you compromised in some area, and felt overwhelmed by guilt. Guess what? The same hope that I extended to my friend is available to Christians too.
God sent Jesus to take the penalty and the guilt of our sin. Because of Christ, we can approach God for His forgiveness and grace. Romans 8:1 says there’s no condemnation for those who are in Christ, so don’t allow sin to isolate you from God. Instead, repent and trust that He will help you to pursue holiness.
PRAY
God, where would I be without Your amazing grace? Thank You for loving me unconditionally and meeting me right where I am. Lord, please help me to run to You when I sin, seeking Your forgiveness and receiving Your grace and love. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT
What does God’s attitude concerning grace and forgiveness imply about our responsibility to forgive ourselves?
