Positioning Ourselves For God’s Provision
 By Noelle Okolowicz

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8 ESV

Did you know that God loves to lavish us with sweet surprises?

Jehovah Jireh, meaning “The Lord Will Provide” is more than a name of God; it’s a beautiful part of His nature worth counting on.  I remember a time when things were very tight. No matter how creative I was with stretching the budget, there was simply not enough left for many groceries after the bills got paid.

Deep into the night, I pleaded with God to help me. New York may be expensive, but if anyone was up to the challenge, it was God.

The next morning, I awoke with a destination, the Public Market. Armed with $20, a roll-cart, and two adorable helpers, we ventured deep through the city. Little did I know that that prompting would be a faithful answer to a heartfelt momma’s prayer.

Ripe fruits and veggies spilled across the horizon. Fresh baked breads and pies filled the air, reminiscent of a festival. Street musicians played and danced.

With big smiles and a weeks’ worth of groceries, we headed home delighted at this new (life-changing) find. The Public Market had always been there. We hadn’t, but it had been. My need prompted me to seek God for answers. It was God’s provision that led me to the solution.

I’ve since realized that provision looks different during different times in my life; and because I see the variety in it, I’ve learned to recognize the “wink” when He gives it. It’s taught me to be bolder in my prayer life, knowing that I can position myself to receive. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 ESV

God’s bounty is endless. Like the booths of the market on a summer day, it comes in all shapes and sizes. In the Bible, it looked like healing, favor, help and hope. Yet the truths from long ago are still alive and well today. It could be an encouraging word, opportunity, a good health report, a refund check, a sale on socks, or something as simple as a close parking space when it’s raining outside.

Become intentional with asking, looking for, and finding God’s provision in your everyday life!

Ask God to show you His provision in your life, as well as ways you can position yourself to receive a greater flow by asking.

Lord, thank You for providing for us, and help us learn to come to You, asking with expectation and reverence, so our faith can grow. And thank You for the best provision, which is access to eternal life through Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
