Marveling at the Power of God – Beloved Women – April 7, 2020
READ: “When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, ‘How did the fig tree wither at once?’” (Matthew 21:20 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Jesus healed the sick, cast out demons, and walked on water, all in full view of the disciples. Yet, they were still astonished by the act of Jesus cursing a fig tree that caused it to wither immediately. They were eyewitnesses with front row access to every miraculous event. How could they still be amazed by Him?
We pray for an answer from God, and then when He speaks through someone who had no way of knowing what we prayed for, we too, are filled with wonder. We witness God at work everyday that He gives us breath and we are grateful. We know that He is able, but if we’re honest, there are times when we are shocked that He actually worked on our behalf.
To marvel is to be filled with wonder, admiration, or astonishment. If we ponder that definition for a while, like the disciples, we too should continue to stand amazed at the hand of God working in our lives. Our knowledge of His supernatural power is different from witnessing it at work. We should never see His interventions as commonplace. The power and authority of God is a marvel and a wonder indeed!
PRAY: God, may we continue to be filled with awe and wonder at Your miraculous power at work in the daily routine of our lives. May we never take You for granted. May we remember that You are All-Powerful, You are the God of Wonders, and may we continually stand amazed in Your presence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
REFLECT: Think of a time when God amazed you. Write a letter of gratitude to Him for what He’s done.
